ACE GmbH is granted fundamental patent on DVD Download-to-burn technology Dortmund, Germany, August 14th, 2006 -- Demonstrating its continuing leadership in the download to burn arena, ACE GmbH today announced the issuance of another fundamental patent on DVD download-to-burn technology. Patent No. DE 10 2005 004 941 A1 2006.08.10 about the “Use of an intermediate format to transfer compressed DVD data over the internet” was issued on August 10, 2006. The patent is the first of several expected in the field of DVD download-to-burn. While DVDs have previously been manufactured by mass replication and shipped as physical goods, this new technology allows internet delivery and home burning of protected, fully compatible, full featured DVDs on every standard PC with DVD burner. "The award of this patent exemplifies ACE’s intense focus on securing rights to the basic building blocks of download-to-burn systems," said Volkmar Breitfeld, Managing Director of ACE. "The significance of this invention is best illustrated by the ability to transfer highly compressed data over the internet and the ability to reconstruct the full DVD at home for viewing on any standard DVD Player. This patent directly enables consumers to access digital libraries that can never be found in a shop.” "Inventions such as these are the cornerstones of a new era of digital lifestyle enabling extraordinary progress in the use of the internet for entertainment and electronic commerce," said Bill Elberg, CTO of CinemaNow, one of the biggest Electronic Video Distribution companies in the world. "Download-to-burn will be used increasingly to replace physical DVD shipments or store purchases." ACE's growing intellectual property portfolio evidences its pioneering role and continuing investment in technologies for secure distribution of high quality content. About ACE |
