FAQ

What exactly is the FluxDVD format?

FluxDVD is a container format that represents a whole DVD with the complete DVD feature set like navigation, multiple audio and subtitle tracks, video angles, seamless branching, anamorphic video (16:9/4:3), etc. in a single, highly compressed file.

FluxDVDs can be played on the PC in Windows Media Player, Windows media Center or other Direct Show based players. If the DRM license permits, it is possible to burn a FluxDVD to DVD to get a 100% compatible Video DVD that plays in every hardware or software DVD player or export it for playback in virtually any device available on the market.

To archive the DVD like quality and the original DVD sound, FluxDVD utilizes full resolution H.264 high profile video encoding and original Dolby AC-3 sound.

Are DVDs burned from FluxDVD different than any other Video DVD?

A Video DVD burned from a FluxDVD file has all the features of the original DVD as bought in a store. It is even possible to create original DVD covers and label art based on the original artwork stored in the FluxDVD file.

How does DRM and FluxDVD work?

Typically FluxDVD files purchased online use a Windows Media DRM compatible rights management system. When such a file is purchased, an individual license is generated which controls the playback, burning to DVD or export to devices.

Depending on this license the playback may be limited (e.g. in time) or the burning to DVD or export to device may be restricted (e.g. limited to one).

Although FluxDVD itself does not include any copy protection technology it is typically combined with Recordable DVD copy protection systems such as SecureBurn from German Protect Software GmbH which prevent unauthorized copies of created DVDs.

What is the minimum system requirement for using FluxDVD?

Typically a reasonable fast Windows XP PC with 512 MB RAM is recommended. In order to burn the FluxDVD you also need a DVD-Recorder. If you are not sure about your computer you can try out the free sample FluxDVD file from the Showcase.

What copy protection is used for the burned DVDs?

The copy protection to be used is specified in the DRM license. Currently supported is SecureBurn and recordable CSS. SecureBurn is the preferred choice for home burning since it requires no special hardware and special recordable DVDs and has a higher playback compatibility than recordable CSS. Recordable CSS is mainly used for kiosk systems and special hardware is required.

Are there any known compatibility issues with SecureBurn DVDs?

No. SecureBurn DVDs are 100% compatible with every soft- or hardware DVD Player that can read recordable DVDs. Independent quality verification tests have been performed and are available on request.

Are there any known compatibility issues with Recordable CSS?

Recordable CSS requires special burners and recordable DVDs not available in regular stores. Compatibility testing carried out by the DVD forum shows some compatibility problems mainly on DVD Recorders.

How about using SecureBurn and Recordable CSS together?

In case the hardware supports Recordable CSS it is no problem and recommened to use SecureBurn and Recordable CSS together for the same DVD.

Can I view FluxDVDs on my PC?

Sure. Just make sure your system meets the minimum system requirements and double click on the file to play back or open it in Windows Media Center. Navigation works as with a standard DVD.

Ho can I burn the FluxDVD to DVD?

There are different options to burn a FluxDVD to DVD:

  • In the explorer, use the right mouse button to click on the FluxDVD file and select "Burn with ..." from the menu
  • If you open a FluxDVD directly from an http link you may click on "Burn" during the download and the process will happen during the download.

How long does it take to burn a DVD from a FluxDVD file?

The time it takes to burn a DVD from a puchased FluxDVD files depends on a variety of factors:

  • The download speed for the FluxDVD file
  • The processing speed of the FluxDVD to DVD transformation
  • The sequence of download and transform (parallel or sequential)
  • The availability of the FluxDVD file to be burned in the transformation cache (has it been burned before?)

Generally you can say that on a fast machine the tranform process is about 2 to 4 times faster than real time. So on average the DVD can be burned instantly after the download is finished. The burn process takes (depending of the speed of the burner) anywhere between 15-40 minutes.

My burned DVD does not play in my DVD-Player

Make sure the DVD Player and the DVD media you were using are compatible as well as the DVD media you are using must be compatible with the DVD Burner you are using. If you are not sure can can try out a free FluxDVD sample before you purchase a FluxDVD online.

I get a write error during recording to DVD

Probably the DVD media you are using is not compatible with your DVD Burner. Try a different media brand or media type.

When I view my burned DVD the picture is somehow strange. This appears at different positions in the movie.

Probably your DVD-Player has problems reading your DVD media. Try to reduce the write speed or use a different media brand or media type.

I reinstalled my PC or got a new PC and want to view my FluxDVD files on this machine.

FluxDVD files may be DRM protected and the license may be issued only for your original computer and is not transferrable to other computers. Contact the online store where you purchased the FluxDVD and ask them to issue a new license.
